Last year was a big year for ePortfolios. I participated as a member of the design team ably led by Coach Carole, for the EpCoP MOOC which I have discussed in an earlier post – Designing a MOOC.
This and earlier work with ePortfolios resulted in an invitation to attend the Australian ePortfolios Conference in Perth in October to present on the undertakings of a small ACE provider in the areas of ePortfolios. My presentation centred around two projects at YNH Services where students have used ePortfolios to present evidence for Assessment. The presentation slides can be viewed at my Google Site.
Whilst the invitation to present at this national conference recognised our work in ePortfolios there is still a lot to be done. As I write this post I reflect that I have really not seriously updated my own ePortfolio since then and certainly there has been no extension of the use of ePortfolios by staff or students at our organisation. So now to set some goals.
- To update both my own Google site and Marhara ePortfolio
- Introduce my TAE students to ePortfolios
- Provide Mahara ePortfolios for staff and encourage their use by providing training and reasons why they should build an ePortfolio
Sounds daunting but anything worth doing……………..
In creating my cloud eportfolio I need to decide on what the major headings on topics will be. So I have created a Mindmap to try to make more sense of it and make sure I have everything covered. I have included a personal category after much deliberation. I think whilst most of my eportfolio is about my professional life there are some things in my personal life which make me who I am and contribute in some way or other to my professional life.
So now I have made my Googlio public, even though there is lots of work still to do. Would be very happy to have feedback. https://sites.google.com/site/paulinewilsonseportfolio/
Finally I have finished procrastinating about what template to use for my Google Site for my Cloud based eportfolio. After weeks of searching through templates and not finding anything I really liked I have settled for a blank template so that I can make it my own. And guess what – I actually like it so far.
Still such a lot of work to do. This will be a major work for me. I am not a good blogger and it takes me a lot of time and thought before I can actually publish something of this magnitude. So for the moment my site is private.
So how will my Cloud based e-portfolio work. I have studied quite a few examples and really like the models used by Coach Carole and Sarah Stewart. So I propose to have a main site which holds my biography and my artefacts and this blog where I will reflect and update on day to day activities. These will be closely linked. Then I will link these out to my Facebook, Twitter and Linked In Accounts
I am still deciding on what pages I will have on my Google site but have so far added a Biography and Academic page. But now I am wondering whether to actually have a Resume page with subpages for Academics, Employment etc.
