Day 1 – Apollo Bay Information Centre to Shelley Beach Picnic Area

Off we go!

Off We Go!!

Off we go! Our first day is finally underway. We had to wait for low tide as we wanted to walk along the beach so Amanda, Robyn, Terry and I set out at 10:45. The weather was beautiful after the grey day yesterday. Sunny and about 19 degrees. The first 4 kilometres was a very easy walk out of Apollo Bay and Marengo.

From the Marengo Caravan Park we into more open area. Heaps of Blackberry plants with lots of fruit.
Soon we were able to access the beach. Walking on the beach was great as the sand was firm but there was some scrambling over rocks. We saw amazing rock formations, including almost perfect circles (lava bubbles??) and rock with slate/tiled appearance.
Also there was supposed to be a blowhole which Terry thought he saw but we think the tide was a bit low to see properly.

We left the beach to walk over Bald Hill which had some amazing views.
Then back down to Shelley Beach which was aptly named. About 20 centimetres of very small and broken shells on top of the sand.
We then had a steep climb through rainforest with beautiful big ferns to the Shelley Beach Car Park arriving about 1:20. Whilst we waited to be picked up we were amazed to see poo falling from the sky only to look up and see a koala. Right on cue as Amanda had just said she wanted to see a koala.
